The ANZIAM-AustMS Lecturer

The ANZIAM-AustMS Lecturer is nominated by ANZIAM to deliver a plenary lecture at the annual meeting of the Australian Mathematical Society (AustMS). The purpose of the lecturer is to promote applied and industrial mathematics to the broader AustMS community, and to support emerging researchers within the ANZIAM community.

The ANZIAM-AustMS Lecturer will be an early or mid-career member of ANZIAM who has carried out distinguished research in industrial and applied mathematics, where a significant proportion of the research has been carried out in Australia or New Zealand. On January 1 in the year in which the award is made, the recipient will be within the equivalent of the first 15 years of their research-related career, following the conferral of a PhD, with allowance for career interruptions and other relevant circumstances

The ANZIAM-AustMS Lecturer will be selected by the annual Invited Speaker’s Committee (ICS) of the ANZIAM Conference in the same year and ratified by the ANZIAM Executive. Nominations for the ANZIAM-AustMS Lecturer will be called for by the Secretary in the prior year and should include three parts in the following order:

  1. a career interruption statement (no more than one page in length);
  2. a brief CV of the nominee summarising their major contribution and their career history;
  3. a list of publications.

Self-nominations will be considered, and all nominations will be forwarded to the ISC. The ISC may also solicit nominations during the normal process of the deliberations of that committee.
