Peter Johnston - Citation for Outstanding Service Award
Assoc. Prof. Peter Johnston was Treasurer of ANZIAM for 16 years from 2005 to 2021. During this time he worked with 9 chairs and 6 secretaries, including Bill Summerfield. Peter's farewell was quite mooted, being during the online conference from Cape Schank. Scott McCue presented a gift of recognition in Peter's study. Here we will represent this gift, in a much more fitting environment.
Having spoken to some of the chair's that served with Peter, the qualities that stood out were Peter's dedication, reliability and professionalism. Peter was scrupulous in making the most effective use of ANZIAM's money. There was no need to worry about anything to do with finances, as they were always completed on time and with a minimum of fuss. In fact one of the chairs commented that Peter would often prompt them well ahead of time of items that needed to be dealt with.
In addition to his work as treasurer Peter organised the 2009 Conference in Caloundra and for a very long period made a significant contribution to AustMS by collating and publishing in the Gazette the yearly analysis of PhD and Honours completions.
