The 8th Australasian Conference on
Mathematics and Computers
in Sport
Greenmount Resort, Coolangatta, Queensland
Monday 3rd to Wednesday 5th July, 2006

The conference directors are:
- Dr John Hammond (Southern Cross University);
- Emeritus Professor Neville de Mestre (Bond University).
This three-day conference will bring together sports scientists who are interested in:
- mathematical and statistical modelling in sport;
- the use of computers in sport;
- the application of these to improve coaching and individual performance;
- teaching that combines mathematics, computers and sport.
You are cordially invited to attend.
Previous conferences were held at Bond University (Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6),
University of Technology Sydney (No. 5), and Massey University NZ (No. 7)

Ron Clarke
- former world-record holder for middle-distance running,
and now Mayor of the Gold Coast,
has agreed to officially open the Eighth Conference.
Papers are invited on any of the following themes:
- computers in sport;
- statistics in sport;
- mathematical modelling in sport;
- teaching of mathematics, computers and sport;
- interactions between any of these.
200-300 word abstracts should be mailed to jhammond@scu.edu.au
by 31st October 2005.
Conference papers will be formally reviewed for significance, correctness and appropriateness to the conference theme.
Conference Proceedings will be published in a collection which will be available to all at the beginning of the conference.
Only those papers considered by the Conference Scientific Committee to be acceptable in content and presentation will be included in the Conference Proceedings.
Other papers may be included on the program, with abstracts provided beforehand by the authors.
The style for the papers will be the same as for The Journal of Sports Science and Medicine.
On acceptance of abstracts the style will be advised to authors.
Negotiations are underway with The Journal of Sports Science and Medicine editor to publish selected papers
as a special edition following the conference.

Greenmount Resort is located on the NSW/Queensland border, not far from the Coolangatta airport.
It is only a short taxi-cab ride from the airport.
Major airlines flying into the Gold Coast include:
Alternatively flights may be made to Brisbane and then train to Robina on the Gold Coast.
A taxi-cab or bus ride will also be required to reach the resort.
Accommodation at Greenmount Resort is very affordable.
Twenty-five rooms have been reserved for the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights of the conference. Prices (including breakfast) are:
$95 for a single room, $105 for a shared twin room,
and $126 for a shared triple room per night.

Please Note:
If you choose to pay in cash at the beginning of the Conference,
then the Early Bird concessions will not apply.
Accompanying persons who wish to have morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea each day
will be charged $60 for the three days (i.e. $20 per day).

In conjunction with the conference there will be a visit to the Surfing High Performance Centre at Casuarina, just south of Tweed Heads/Coolangatta on Sunday 2nd July.
Those interested in attending this should contact John Hammond by 31st March 2006.
Sports scientists from Edith Cowan University and the University of Plymouth have already indicated interest in this excursion.
These will be arranged informally as usual on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights at various restaurants near the resort.
The restaurants will be chosen for their reasonable price list and convenience to the resort.
Delegates will pay for their dinners.
There will be no formal Conference dinner.
Speakers will have approx. 30 minutes to present their papers and answer questions.
The two keynote speakers will have approx. 60 minutes to present their papers and answer questions.
There will be no parallel sessions.
